Former Police and School Resource Officer Carlamay Sheremata on Keeping Children Safe in a Digital World

The advent of the internet, and more specifically pocket-sized devices which grant access to all the splendors and horrors of that internet, has forever changed the way we consume information and media. It has also forever changed the way many children will be raised.

Not all that long ago, parents had to make sure their children weren’t spending too much time with troublesome neighborhood kids or sneaking peaks at lewd magazines on the top shelves at local convenience stores and they could rest relatively assured that their children were at least largely shielded from inappropriate content.

Personal computers and recently cell phones eviscerated that sense of security faster than many parents were able to adapt and by now at least a few generations have undeniably been exposed and affected by things on the internet their parents likely can’t even imagine, and at shockingly young ages.

To learn more about how to protect children from the potential dangers of technology, when or if a child should be allowed to access the internet, and about the critical necessity for parents to be technologically literate and involved in their children’s life, Adam was joined by former police officer and school resource officer, public speaker and author Carlamay Sheramata.
