The Adam Soos Show - Amanda Achtman on Euthanasia

This interview may include subject matter that is sensitive to some viewers.

When euthanasia was introduced by activists in Canada it was masked by an artificial veneer of care and compassion. They assured everyone that only those suffering and on the brink of death would be eligible, and that there would be safeguards to ensure no one, especially those suffering from mental illness, would ever be able to access medical assistance in dying. Safe and rare they said, where have I heard that before?

People paying attention knew that the promised safeguards would fall away and that it was a slippery slope towards expanding Canada’s culture of death toward MAiD for just about anyone, including veterans asking for help, but the left, the medical establishment, the activists and the media all insisted that this fear was just a fallacy.

Lo and behold, just a decade later, it turns out that the slope was indeed slippery and that folks calling MAiD advocates wolves in sheep’s clothing may have been justified in their concerns.

Today one in twenty deaths in Canada is caused by euthanasia, in Quebec that number is up to 7.2%... making it the place with the single highest rate of death by euthanasia in the world.

To discuss the troubling expansion of euthanasia in Canada, Adam was joined by Amanda Achtman, who does ethics education and cultural engagement for Physicians for Life.
