You may recognize Landon Johnston as the architect of the recall Gondek petition, which came up short of securing enough signatures to see Calgary’s former embattled mayor Jyoti Gondek recalled, but clearly set the stage for her categorical defeat in the city’s latest election.

The work he did on that campaign clearly lit a political fire within him, because he went on to dominate the municipal election, advocating for strong conservative policies and winning himself a seat on Calgary’s city council representing Ward-14.

Calgary also elected a far more conservative mayor than Gondek in Jeromy Farkas, and together the city seems to have begun a shift towards commons sense municipal politics.
