Adam’s guest is Dr. Dean Vause, is the Executive Director of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre (AARC), a long-term, intensive treatment program dedicated to severely addicted youth and their families. AARC represents the culmination of Dr. Vause’s more than 35 years of research and experience in the field of adolescent addiction.
He joined Adam to share about how and why AARC came to be, and to discuss the unique ways they tackle addiction and how their methods contribute to their statistically uncommon success rates. Adam also asked for Dr. Vause’s expert opinion on a number of recovery-focused topics, including the Alberta model of recovery, the so-called safe-supply strategy being advocated for by some (especially on the left), and about compassionate intervention for those struggling with severe and dangerous addictions.
